In this episode of #AstroNutters: Meet 'Ireland's Planetary King'; Enda Kelly.
Growing up in south Wicklow, away from the hustle and bustle of the city lights in Dublin and free from major light pollution, Enda was always aware of the night sky as a child and space enthusiasm was all around him, yet it wasn't until he was in his 40's that he got the realy bug for astronomy.
Not long after purchasing a cheap refractor to look at the moon, he quickly chanced his arm at giving Saturn a go through the eyepiece, and it was then that Enda was bitten by the bug and wanted more!
Diving head first into the deep-end, he invested in what he considered to be the perfect rig and camera, and started his journey to focus on imaging the planets from Ireland's less than optimal latitude, and after a lot of frustration and perseverence, he became an award winning planetary astrophotographer. This is Enda's story...

#AstroNutters was born from an obsession with the universe and the desire to share it with others, those that know, and those that don't!
It all started with a desire to share our amazing Irish astronomy community with the world.
A community facing extreme odds stacked against them in their pursuit of unravelling the secrets of the universe. Odds such as the Irish weather and exponential light pollution ruining our night skies, to name but two!
As a result, die hard Irish people who don't let the weather get to them, and find ways around the light pollution, were interviewed for a documentary named "Die Hard Astro".
There was a lot of material left over, and it got turned into this series, 'Astro Nutters', and it's all part of a much bigger picture that we hope can be turned into something broadcast worthy for the first time in Ireland.
And so 'Astro Nutters' was born, a series of personal stories from people obsessed with the universe. We have nine episodes of #AstroNutters in season one, with 3 bonus episodes coming later, and we've launched in the hopes of not only making this series highly entertaining, but that it will also help promote and drive people to want to watch Die Hard Astro at one of our screenings on Tour during 2027.
I hope you all thoroughly enjoy 'Astro Nutters' and the people in each episode and if you'd like to share your obsession for the universe, apply to be 'cast' for season two.
